God is not abstract nor a concept created by our minds. God is love, He emptied Himself and took the form of a servant, He revealed Himself as a man the LORD Jesus Christ. We love Him and give Him honour and glory because He first loved us. The Greeks knew nothing of this until Paul answered the call of the man from Macedonia who pleaded ‘help us’.
The gift of God is righteousness through faith in Jesus Christ. He calls us into His kingdom, we do not call Him into ours. Justin and the apologists tried to accommodate the holy gospel of Jesus Christ to Greek philosophical terms and ideas and thus polluted it and set in train an amalgamation of pagan and biblical thought which corrupted the truth of the word of God. Hurray for the Pope standing up to Islam and its reign of violence through the Middle East and North Africa and across the Euphrates into Persia and beyond. But let us not forget that it was the paganisation of the church in these regions in the form of unholy and false doctrines that brought calamity upon it through the armies of Islam.
